Devil Goat Farm’s Artemis has been bred via artificial insemination (TCI) to Pastore Transumante Bartolo! Pregnancy was confirmed by ultrasound on August 23rd and her due date is around September 23rd. We are extremely excited about this breeding.
Artemis is a three year old MSCA registered Maremma. In addition to being a beautiful representative of the breed, she is an incredible farm guardian, with an ideal temperament and proven guard experience. She is highly correct and OFA hip and eye tested.
Working in tandem with the farm’s other LGDs, Artemis guards goats, pigs, chickens, and ducks. In addition, she’s strongly bonded to her humans, including young children and house pets. She weighs approximately 105 pounds and is therefore on the larger end of the size spectrum. She lives with her charges 24 hours a day, attends goat kiddings and is especially tender with baby animals of all kinds. In short, she is a wonderful example of the Maremma breed.
The sire of this breeding is Bartolo, an MSCA registered Italian import from the impeccable Pastore Transumante champion lines. Bartolo was imported from Italy and comes from champion bloodlines. However, he is not from a show-only heritage. Pastore Transumante emphasizes the breeding of working dogs with proper temperament. Pastore Transumante is internationally recognized as a leader in the Maremma breed and we are thrilled to be able to offer one of the best pairings in the country this year. The breeding was done via artificial insemination using a shipment of fresh semen from Bartolo’s wonderful owners in Wisconsin, where he works guarding alpacas. He is OFA hip, elbow, knee and eye tested and has several proven litters now working on farms across the country. Bartolo was previously bred to Artemis’ full litter-mate sister and the puppies were outstanding, which is a great indication of the quality of puppies expected from this litter.
We are currently taking applications for puppies. You can fill out the online application, or download the pdf and email it to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. We will continue our waiting list in order of approved applications. Once puppies are on the ground they will be evaluated and the appropriate number of people on the waiting list will be contacted and deposits taken.
It is likely the puppies will be ready for new homes around Thanksgiving or in the following few weeks. Puppies will come with preliminary vaccinations, microchips and MSCA limited registration applications. See attached link for their Planned Pedigree.
