Devil Goat Farm is pleased to be planning a litter of purebred Maremma puppies for Fall 2017. Devil Goat Artemis will be bred to Pastore Transumante Bartolo via artificial insemination this summer.
Artemis, a three year old MSCA registered Maremma born 3/23/14, is highly correct and an incredible farm guardian. She is wonderful with the goats, pigs, chickens, and ducks that she guards. In addition, she’s strongly bonded to her humans including young children and safe around the house dogs and cats. She weighs approximately 105 pounds and is therefore on the larger end of the size spectrum. Artemis has OFA certified Good hips and CERF eyesight accreditation.
She lives with her charges 24 hours a day, attends goat kiddings and is especially tender with baby animals of all kinds. In short, she is a joy and a wonderful example of the Maremma breed.
The sire of this breeding will be Pastore Transumante Bartolo. The breeding will be done through artificial insemination through the shipment of fresh semen from his wonderful owners in Wisconsin. Bartolo was imported from Italy and is out of champion bloodlines. However, he is not from a show-only heritage. Pastore Transumante emphasises the breeding of working dogs with proper temperament.
Bartolo has OFA certified hip, elbows and patellas and accredited eyes. He works as an LGD on an alpaca farm and has bred several healthy, consistent litters of puppies.
Pastore Transumante is internationally recognized as a leader in the Maremma breed and we are thrilled to be able to offer one of the best possible pairings in the country this year. This breeding is possible through AI and therefore not guaranteed to occur. The hope and expectation is that AI will occur in early July, confirmation in mid-August and whelping in early September. Pups would be available sometime in November. There are no guarantees and a repeat breeding is not planned at this time. Reservations have already been placed, but requests are still available.
